Florida Bedroom Makeover

When I wound up back home for quarantine, I suddenly moved back into my former childhood bedroom that hadn’t been redecorated since 8th grade. It was sparse and outdated and upon realizing I’d be here in Florida for awhile, I asked my mom about giving it a facelift. She said sure, but the main criteria was to decorate it more as a guest room than to my personal taste (my first design had a lot of mid-century modern disco vibes with a velvet headboard and a large rattan chair). So, I went another route, and focused on trying to find sustainable pieces to incorporate into the tropical themed room.

It began with the bed and nightstand, which are made from reclaimed teak wood, and I designed the room out from there. I chose a premium nontoxic green paint for the walls, sheets and organic cotton for the bed, linen curtains for the windows, and I found ways to repurpose pieces from the old bedroom like repainting the mirror white to brighten it up (a cost saver and the sustainable option). I even made my own little faux floral design in the zebra vase! All in all I’m very happy with how it turned out!
