What I'm Reading: February 2020

 

Born A Crime by Trevor Noah

I’ve loved Trevor Noah for years for his role on The Daily Show and his standup comedy. But I had no idea the hardships he’d had to overcome to get to where he is today growing up in South Africa as the mixed child of a single mother during apartheid. All I’m saying is, if you haven’t already, go read this book now! He tells his story with such honest humor that you can’t help but feel like you relate even to the things he describes that are so far outside what most of us will ever experience.

Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

A cute and cheesy love story between the president’s son and the prince of England. It was a lighthearted feel-good read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Atomic Habits by James Clear

A really awesome book that discusses the ways changing your everyday habits can have a resounding and lasting impact on your success for reaching your goals. Not only does he provide clear evidence and examples for the power of changing your habits, the book is organized to provide you with the building blocks and tools to effectively change your own habits. I plan to re-read this and really implement some of the strategies he suggests.

You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero

I really wanted to like this book. I had heard such great things about it and friends of mine raved about how this book changed their lives. But, while I appreciated parts of it, overall I couldn’t stay engaged with it. I liked her straightforward, colloquial tone at times yet at others it grated on me as dismissive. I agree with many of the concepts she presents but I wouldn’t say that she would have convinced me if I hadn’t already…
