North of the Square

North Square

I lived on the west side of Washington Square Park for almost a year as a freshman yet I feel like I really didn't adequately explore the area until recently. I tried North Square for lunch with my mom and we both really enjoyed our salads. I got a crab and pear salad with a port vinaigrette that I cleared off the plate (which is a strong indication of how good it was since I almost never fully clear my plate). The endives, almonds, and jicama provided a delightful crunch to offset the crabmeat and the tang of the vinaigrette and the lightness of the manchego cheese really rounded out the balance of flavor. The restaurant was quiet when we were there but I got the sense that it would have a great laid back ambiance at more of a peak time than 3 in the afternoon. All in all a great spot for a quick and tasty bite near the park.
